The preparations for this year's SAP Virtualization Week are in full swing. The format has changed quite significantly from last year, and for the first time you will now be able to participate online (register here). Complementing on-site attendance (location: SAP Labs in Palo Alto, contact the organizer Roland Wartenberg of SAP at roland.wartenberg@sap.com directly), this new option greatly amplifies the reach of the conference. Also, with one track and twenty five talks there will be great focus.

Let us have a brief look at the agenda. VMware will be well represented, reflecting the adoption of our technologies in SAP environments. Steve Herrod, VMware’s CTO, will be speaking about “Virtualization’s Future: From the Desktop to the Cloud”. Vas Mitra and I will be discussing more concretely the Virtual Data OS as it applies to SAP customers. We will be touching on strategy, proof points, and best practices. We will also show a very interesting demonstration of what we are doing with SAP and partners in the SAP Co-Innovation Lab. Also, Christoph Reisbeck will be supporting Fujitsu Siemens' discussion of the FlexFrame/VMware integration. In addition, other partners (EMC, Intel, T-Systems…, and SAP) will have very interesting things to say about how their technologies interface with VMware’s stack to bring value to SAP customers. And last, but certainly not least, there will also be a fantastic panel discussion with Steve Herrod and the CTOs of Citrix and Microsoft.

Most importantly however, many customers will be presenting their experiences and views on SAP virtualization at this event. We are looking forward to hearing from Theo Gibson (Director at Honeywell) about their plans and experiences around migrating Honeywell’s ERP environment to the VMware/Intel platform. Slobodan Malbasic (IT Director at Tarkett EE) and Miroslav Krzic (Coming - Computer Engineering) will present their usage of VMware Site Recovery Manager (see also Efficient Disaster Recovery for SAP Landscapes) for their SAP DR framework. This will be the first public SRM/SAP customer talk that I am aware of. Rick Scherer (San Diego Data Processing Corporation), regularly blogging here, will provide another customer perspective. Also Markus Winter of SAP Managed Services, who has presented at VMworld conferences about SAP's internal use of VMware virtualization (see also Dr. Krips keynote at VMworld Europe in Cannes two weeks ago), will discuss new status and plans.

And hopefully, the presentations for all of the other really interesting sessions that had been submitted (EFI, Dow Chemical, Kirchhoff Automotive, SAP COIL, ....) will be made available as well.

In short, it will be a great event – on-site, or online!

'Hope to see you there,

  • Joachim
