In the first two talks today, Zia Yusuf (EVP for the SAP Partner Ecosystem) and Peter Graf (SAP Chief Sustainability Officer) gave great endorsements of virtualization in SAP environments (and beyond). They also clearly articulated how it aligns with SAP's strategy.
Here are two comments from Zia (and I am paraphrasing)
-Virtualization is a no-brainer technology and everyone should be using it
-Let's jointly (SAP and partners and customers) work on (further) increasing adoption numbers
Peter Graf was talking in more detail about sustainability and Green IT, as well as the new Green IT Community. Really good stuff. Here are a few of his key points:
-Customers following a sustainability strategy have done 15% better than others during the economic down-turn
-Business benefits of virtualization: one customer was able to save close to $6m in the first year, translating in about 30% savings.
-Customers should use virtualization a lot more and a lot deeper
-Natural 1st step to Green IT: VIRTUALIZATION
Peter also showed a great graph/tool on how SAP measures carbon usage and carbon goals in-house.
Very nice kick-off, and it really shows that SAP has stepped up their game significantly when it comes to sustainability, Green IT, and virtualization.

P.S.: As a side note, we will shortly communicate virtualization adoption numbers based on a study by Raad in Germany.
